Youtube Video - How to draw a cartoon giraffe

I have a new video on youtube. It's a "how to" on drawing a cartoon Giraffe. Please watch the video and let me know how I can improve.

The best way to find the video on youtube is to search for "draw a cartoon giraffe NCG". NCG stands for Next Cartooning Guru. My youtube account is under the name NextCartooningGuru. Here's the link to my channel on youtube.

Here is the sketch from the video.

Goofy Giraffe - Sketches and an Animation

Below are a couple of rough sketches for a Goofy Giraffe. While I was sketching, I also did a 3sec( I know, it's not much) animation with a giraffe and two ants. For the animation, I used my laptop's touch pad to draw the giraffe and  the trial version of Toon Boom's Animation-ish software. I wish I had a Graphics Tablet for my animation drawings. I'm hoping to buy one soon. :)

Sketching for a simple animation

I've been wanting to do an small animation about colors for kids. This sketch of a little girl with a teddy bear in "THE BOOK" was soo adorable, I had to use it(modified) in the animation. I'm nowhere close to finishing the animation, but here are a couple of rough sketches I did of the little girl and the teddy bear.

Turning a character's head - Surprisingly Simple

In the next lesson from "THE BOOK", I learned to turn a character's head from front view to three quarters and then to profile. It was an easy lesson and the trick was to only change where the sketch guidelines went. The expressions remained the same. The hair was the only thing that needed to be changed for each view. Surprisngly Simple. This particular example is for a simple head shape - A rectangle.

I'm loving "THE BOOK" :)

The BALD BAD Guy

Yesterday's favourite was the "Classic Bad Guy". Inspired, I tried to do my own version of a BALD bad guy. I have no idea why I chose the guy to be bald. :)  The expression in the eyes and the smile I took inspiration from the previous "Classic Bad Guy". The rest I tried to do on my own. My first attempt is Ridiculous to say the least and nothing close to a "Bad Guy". Atleast I got the "BALD" part right. :D The second attempt is closer to the "Bald Bad Guy" although the hair doesn't look right.

Back to Basics

Had enough of trying to create my own cartoon characters. They are so bad. So I got back to learning more basics from Christopher Hart's "humungous book of...." book. I loved the characters i sketched today. Was so much fun! My fav is the "Classic Bad Guy".

The teenage girl was more challenging than the rest.

Common Interest

My little one loves to spend time with me and have me draw for her. She loves paint (no crayons, no color pencils..Only paint). Since it gets too messy I instead draw for her. Her favourite is the "Angry Fish" you can see in one of the pictures. It's the one with the big open mouth and sharp teeth. What the "Angry Fish" will eat varies from "other small fish" one day to "other animals" another day. So we get to draw various animals and create a different story each day. None of these are copied from other drawings. Trying to do as many cartoons as possible from my imagination. Makes learning a lot more fun!

Picture of drawings I did for DD :
Smiling Fish, Laughing Fish, Sad Fish, Wailing Fish and several Angry Fish.

Just Dooooooooooooodling

Spent time doodling while watching "Curious George 2" with my little one.
Used the round head shape to create a few cute baby faces, doodled some expressions with eyes and the bus on the top was an attempt to do "The wheels on the bus go round and round".

Creating my blog's background image

Wanted a background image for my blog. Drew my own version of a cartoon cow, giraffe, hen and a pig, scanned it and used it as my blog's background image.

Day 1 - Not as easy as it seems

Here are a couple of sketches from day 1. All of them are exercises from the book "Humungous book of Cartooning" by Christopher Hart.

The Basic Head Shapes:

Using the Round head shape to draw a squirrel:

The Rounded Triangle head shape to create a Teenage guy:

The Oval head shape for a teenage girl:

And finally, tried my hand at drawing a squirrel from a picture of a real squirrel. They dont look anything like cute cartoon squirrels. :)
